About Edward C. Moore

Edward C. Moore, for whom this symposium is named, served as the IUPUI dean of the faculties from 1973 until 1982. Prior to his work at IUPUI, Moore was chancellor of the board of Higher Education for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Dean Moore was a prolific author who wrote for many national journals and published four books on pragmatism. Additionally, he reviewed and edited numerous books on subjects that included English literature, science, and philosophy. Moore was highly regarded by his IUPUI colleagues, and his gifts of persuasion, wit, and candor were especially appreciated. The Edward C. Moore Symposium is one of IUPUI’s longest running public events and provides an opportunity for the higher education community in Indiana together examine teaching excellence and innovative pedagogies to encourage student learning.
