Leadership, teamwork, and professionalism are desirable outcomes for all college students. The Camp Brosius Leadership Development Camp is a 1-week residential experience in Elkhart Lake, WI where students learn leadership, teamwork, and professional skills. In this session, participants will actively learn about the Department of Kinesiology’s Camp Brosius Leadership Development Camp through a series of leadership and teamwork activities.

Team Teaching, Mentoring, and Peer Mentoring: Undergraduates Teaching and Mentoring Each Other

The Computer Information Technology (CIT) 490 Team-Teaching Project is a formal mentoring /peer mentoring project that allows CIT upperclassmen to team-teach with a CIT faculty member for an entire semester while earning 3 RISE credits towards their graduation. In this session, participants will learn the basics of the mentoring/peer mentoring project, discuss current and future assessment methods, how to apply the project to other courses, and past mentees will share their experiences and suggestions in a panel discussion format.

Embedding Transformational Outcomes in Your Classroom: Learning beyond Transaction to Transformation

This presentation provides the pathway to changing your classroom from one where mainly transactions are carried out (i.e. grades for performance for dualistic reasoning) to one where development through transformation occurs both for the professor and the students.  The classroom can be a context for personal development and transformation whereby our students evolve new forms of meaning at more comprehensive and complex levels of adaptability. Participants will be exposed to activities that will enhance the possibility that their classroom can support the evolutionary process of personal development and will engage in large and small group discussion."

MTBindingSim: Using Computer Simulators to Teach Protein Binding

MTBindingSim is an interactive, freely available computer program designed to simulate protein binding interactions. Previously, we have used this software to teach the topic of protein binding to freshmen engineering students. In this session, participants will play the role of students. We will conduct a mini-assessment to determine baseline knowledge,use the program to teach some of the basics of protein binding, and then conduct a brief post-assessment. No previous knowledge of biochemistry or proteins is necessary for participation. We will also spend time discussing other ways to bring simulation into the classroom across a range of disciplines.

This session will offer ideas for implementing high impact practices in the classroom through using role-playing, case study, and debate activities. Participants will experience one example of such an activity.  The presenters will discuss the challenges and limitations they have faced using these strategies and invite interaction from participants on how they too can utilize these strategies in their classrooms.

Using Original Web-Based "App" to Engage Prelicensure Nursing Students in Evidence-Based Practice

Web-Based applications, familiar to most students and faculty, can be a fun and effective way to introduce evidence-based practice (EBP). The use of innovative, mobile technology can create an engaging teaching-learning environment while saving faculty time. This session will demonstrate how web-based technology is currently being used to engage prelicensure nursing students in EBP. Participants will be invited to use the app and engage in a collaborative discussion on how different dimensions of diverse topics can be used in a variety of contexts for learning.
