2023 Call for Proposals (Closed)

The E.C. Moore Symposium on Excellence in Teaching provides an opportunity for instructors of all ranks and appointment types across Indiana to share their innovative practices in teaching and learning and to engage with a nationally renowned speaker. This year’s E.C. Moore Symposium will be held on March 24, 2023 at the IUPUI Campus Center. Proposals for all session types are due December 5, 2022 by 11:59 p.m.

Purpose

A key component of the symposium is the communication and sharing of new ideas in teaching that promote engaging, inclusive, and equitable student learning experiences and student success. The symposium review committee is seeking session proposals for three types of sessions: interactive presentations, TED-like talks, and Show and Tell sessions. See the full call for proposals at the bottom of this page which outlines key features of each session type, guidelines for submission, and evaluative criteria. 

Session Formats

Interactive Presentation

A presentation of your research or experimentation in teaching and learning including interaction with participants, and questions. This may also include a demonstration of a teaching innovation or reflections of lessons learned. (30 minutes)

TED-like Talk

An inspirational, narrative-driven presentation taking the audience on a thought-provoking journey about teaching and learning that is concise and high-energy. (10 minutes)

Show and Tell

An opportunity to share a teaching tool such as an assignment, project, group activity, or student feedback strategy that you have developed or adapted that you think others in and outside your discipline might find useful. (15 minutes)

Proposal Review Timeline

Proposals must be submitted online through this website. The review process involves a blind review by at least three individuals drawn from a pool of faculty members and instructional staff, E.C. Moore planning committee members, and Center for Teaching and Learning faculty and staff.

  • All proposals are due by December 5, 2022, at 11:59 p.m.
  • Presenters will be notified via email in January 2023 of the status of their submission.
  • You must officially confirm your accepted presentation title, abstract, and any co-presenters.
  • If you do not confirm your presentation by February 10, 2023, then your session will not be included in the program.
  • For TED-like talks, you will be contacted in late February to schedule a session rehearsal between March 1 and March 8, 2023.
